On June 29, 2011, Rev. Stiver would have been 90 years old. To remember the day and in honor of his memory, here is one of the crosses from his collection.

Like many of his crosses, this one was a gift. He received the hair cross from Mrs. Edward Day of Wheeling, West Virginia, in 1955. The small cross is made of gold fasteners connected by woven human hair and is a type of jewelry popular in Victorian times. It could either be for ornamental use, to remember a loved one or to remember one who has died. Of the hundreds of forms of hair jewelry only a handful were shaped as a cross.
